Spili village, Margarites village and the city of Rethymnon
Today we will visit the center of the island. We will start with a visit to Spili, which is a small pleasant village in the mountains. It is a village bountiful with water so it is always green. About 7 fountains were built there, the special one being the Venetian Fountain, which consists of 19 lion heads, from which clear drinking water flows through. We’ll continue to the village of Margarites. Most of the houses here are also workshops for the preparation of tools and pottery. We will walk through the village and observe the craftsmanship. Our next stop is Rethymnon, which is the third largest city in Crete. The city is situated on the coastline and has rich history. We will stroll around the Old City and experience the Venetian Ottoman Quarter with narrow, winding alleys and ancient buildings with colorful and varied facades.
Chania city tour - the old city, port, the old synagogue
Today we will tour the city of Chania, located along the coast in northwest Crete. We will take a tour of the ancient city surrounded by the remains of a Venetian wall. We will pass through Eleftherios Venizelos Central Square. We will continue to visit the restored ancient port which is by far the most popular and charming area in the city making it a colorful entertainment center. We will visit the ancient “Tree of Life” synagogue, the only one left on the island and symbolize the Jewish heritage in Chania. From there we will continue to the resort town of Georgioupolis. This charming town has received media coverage as one of the best resort towns in Crete, which always looks green and fresh. There we also eat lunch in the background of the magical bay.
